Renting a Car in Turks and Caicos

In the Turks and Caicos, car rental services are rarely available on islands other than Providenciales and Grand Turk . But there are plenty of companies willing to rent you a car on these two main islands.

When renting a car in the Turks and Caicos, keep in mind that driving is done in the British style, on the left side of the road.  The maximum speed limit on the islands is set at 40 miles per hour, though smaller towns tend to allow only a maximum driving speed of 20 miles per hour.  Always obey posted traffic signs, and remember to give vehicles driving in roundabouts the right-of-way. 

There are many older roads throughout the island that can be bumpy and unfavorable to drive on, especially on Providenciales.  You can avoid these roads by sticking to the highway system, which is much more newly constructed than some of the older back roads. 

While drivers under the age of 25 may be able to find a company that will rent them a car, 21 is the absolute minimum age limit when it comes to renting a car on these islands. Remember to bring a child safety seat from home if traveling with a young child. Rental agencies will not provide them for you.

Requirements and restrictions can vary. If you are concerned about minimum and maximum age restrictions, insurance requirements and the like, consider contacting each firm directly, before making a final decision.  Rental cars will set you back between $55(USD) and $80(USD) per day, with an additional rental tax of $15(USD) attached to every rental.
